Competition Rules

Must-haves for every scarecrow entry:

  1. Your scarecrow must stand up — either self-standing, or with a stick/stake secured into the ground.
  2. Attach the official entry form to your scarecrow (available from the school office).
  3. Register your scarecrow on the Scarecrow Trail via the Enter the Trail page — this is separate from the entry form and both are required.
  4. Entries close 20 October 2026 — late entries may miss out on judging and the trail.
  5. Community Spirit Award voting opens once entries close and runs online.
  6. Category winners and the People’s Choice winner are announced at the Picnic, Friday 13 November 2026, 4–7pm.
  7. The judges’ decision is final.
  8. This is a kids’ competition — mostly Three Kings School children should do the creating, building and decorating; adults may help only where children can’t safely do it themselves.
  9. Use weatherproof materials — scarecrows are displayed outdoors and may face rain and wind.
  10. No electricity, glass or open flames. A wooden stake will be provided in the ground for your scarecrow to attach to.
  11. Keep within the size limit: minimum height 1.5m, maximum height 2m (including the display structure).
  12. Most importantly — have fun, be creative, and get the whole family involved!

Need the official entry form? It's available on the Enter the Trail page, or contact the PTA at pta@threekings.school.nz if you have any questions about the rules.
